Math Madness Wednesdays: Money, Money, Money

Money is a favorite topic for many of us (although,as we approach Tax Day, maybe it isn't a favorite for all of us!).  It is something that we use on a daily basis, in one form or another.  So, it is important for kids to learn.  Sometimes it can be tricky!  But, it doesn't have to be.   You can start by reading some great books.  Try one or more of these:                         These books alone can lead to many great discussions!  Hand out money after reading and see if the kids can reenact the story or come up with their own problems.   After teaching the basics and maybe creating an anchor chart, your kids can practice by playing games!   Here are a couple of my money versions that can help with this topic:

Are your kids beyond identifying coins and ready to try some "real-world" scenarios?  How about using a menu?  In this made-up restaurant, everything is train-themed.  The activities are even differentiated so you can use similar sheets with different groups of kids.
