Mentor Monday: Apples!

I am SOOOO excited that Mentor Monday is BACK!  I love this weekly linky of wonderful book ideas and teaching suggestions.  This week's topic is APPLES, so I was even more excited.

Gail Gibbons is one of my absolute favorite nonfiction authors.  I love the way she brings facts to a kids level, but doesn't "baby" it down too much.  Her Apples book has been a long time favorite because of all the terms and ideas it brings with it.

I love how it shows all kinds of apples.  We often times use that part to graph our favorite type of apples (after taste testing, of course!) and we even talk about how a great mixture of different types of apples make the best applesauce!  (You can read my post {here} about how to make your own batch of applesauce in the crockpot).

My favorite part is the way it shows the apple trees throughout the year.  This inspired the apple sequence foldable product (differentiated for various levels) that is part of my Gail Gibbons lapbook.  Students read about what the tree looks like and cut and paste the correct season to the description.  On the inside of the flap, they draw a picture of the apple tree.  YOU can pick it up for FREE {here} (shhhh..I don't offer it to free for just anyone!).  Want to win the whole lapbook?  Enter the giveaway below for your chance.

Don't forget to head back to Emily's {blog} to read more GREAT ideas for Apple themed mentor texts.  And, make sure you check it out each week for new Mentor Mondays!
