Thematic Thursday Space

I am so excited to be linking up with Carla from Comprehension Connections for her very first Thematic Thursday Linky!  This week's topic is SPACE.

My favorite way of introducing any science topic is by reading a great book.  One of the authors that I always look for is Seymour Simon.  I love his books!  He always includes wonderful pictures and lots of facts.  And, he has several space books to choose from.

When teaching about the moon, I also like the book called If You Decide to Go to the Moon by Faith McNulty.  I like it because it is an interesting point of view.  Kids imagine going to space anyway, so this book helps them think about what that would be like.

If you decide to read this book with your class, be sure to grab my FREE copy of a reflection sheet for kids to think about what they would like to see, what might be scary, and what they would miss while they are gone!

And, after you go over the phases of the moon, let kids practice with a fun game!  This is one of my WILD card games that is played like Uno.  They can match the picture, the word, and/or the description of the moon phases.

Or, you can combine your math practice with your space learning by using these task cards.

Be sure to head to the Carla's page for more great ideas for teaching Space!

  2. Thanks for linking up Krista! I love your post, and I'll have to share your Wild card game with our fourth grade science teacher. I bet he'd love it. Great book recommendations too!
